This report is based on a field study which was done on a particular herd of elk in the Nelway, British Columbia area by the author in the winter of 1981 and 82. The report mainly deals with estimations of the herd population and movements, however, some time is given to the question of how much competitive pressure is being put on local deer populations by these elk. The report includes recommendations for the management of elk populations after careful study of the contemporary situation and factors affecting it.
