Studies indicate that one third of kindergarten students in BC display vulnerabilities in one or more areas of critical development. This figure has persisted at this rate, over the past 13 years. Kindergarten age is the first universal assessment of children's development at age five or six. No universal developmental screening protocol exists for children before this age. Developmental vulnerabilities in children can be detected and addressed during the pre-school age, but at this time, there is no universal screening before Kindergarten in BC.
