Of the five All Stars of the 15th Annual Blue and Gold Basketball Tournament and the team managed a third place finish overall. Stanley Humphries Senior Girls hosted the toumament held in Castlegar Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7 and 8, Pleasant Valley's outstanding forward Holly Dykstra was named the Tournament’s MVP. Five All Stars were also chosen including Rockettes rookie Laurel Closkey, Grand Forks’ Tammy Clark, Dawn Collins from Clarence Pulton, Catherine Olson from Carson Graham and Sum- merland’s Tama Bell who was M.V.P. in last year's Provincials, Stanley Humphries coaches Jack Closkey and Doug Hickey were pleased with their team's Eight teams with Carson Gruham from Vancouver travelling the farthest to compete. The Pleasant Valley Sinners from Armstrong were considered the favorites going in, having finished fourth in last year's Provincial Championships. No one was able to knock the Sinners off and they won the final against Clarence Fulton from Vernon 70- 51, The Clarence Fulton Maroons stepped over Stanley Humphries’ ' Rockettes to get to the final, forcing the Rockettes to settle for third when they defeated.Carson Graham 48-37, . Being at the beginning of the season as it is,.most games were low scoring. K.L.O.. from Kelowna nipped the Summerland Rockets 48-47 to take fifth place while Grand Forks edged the Spring Valley Spartans. from Kelowna 50-47 for 7th spot. “We could have played better against Clarence Fulton,” said Hickey, “But then Kristy Lees and Lisa Baker got back on track and we got great efforts from Grade 11's Laurel Closkey and Kelly Davidoff to take third from Carson Graham.” “The Grade 11's played great.’ confirmed Closkey. “We still have a lot of work to do this week if we want to do well in Calgary next weekend.” The Rockettes travel to Alberta to take part in a tournament held _ at the Southem Alberta Institute of Technology. This will be their first time participating as a total of 24 teams meet from all across Westem Canada.
