THE TRUTH WOULD ANSWER BEST.

The Youth’s Companion is an estems-
bie publication, filled with choice and
truthful statements caculated to not only
‘amuse.but enlighten and educate ite
readers. We, say truthful when refer-
ring to the contents of its reading col-
umne, which cannot be carried into ite
“terme” to subscribers. Referring to
renewals, it says, “three weeks are re-
quired after the receipt of money by us
before date opposite your name on your
paper can be changed.” Of course, it
mieans that they require your money
three weeks before your subscription ex-
pires, but the idea that it cannot be
done in lesa time is preposterous. News-

publication as the Youth’s Companion
‘would require: money three weeks in
advance of the expiration of the sub-
acrjption in order to have the use of the

benefit it would be to the management:
Say the cireulation is 300,000, which isa
very low estimate, which, we believe, is
only two-thirds of what is claimed. At
$1.75 each it amounts to $625,000. The
use of this monsy for three weeke at 6
per cent amounts to $1800. Add to this
interest at the same rate forthe sub-
scription in advance for the $525,000,
which is $31,500 the mansgenent makes
each year, a neat little fortune.

Again, they eny: ‘Always give the
name. ofthe postofficeto which your
paper is sent, Your name cannot be
found on ourbooks unless this is done.”
It may be inconvenient, but is not true.

All doubt that the next defender of
the America’s Cup will be an out-and-
out-metal boat. vanished when two
plates. of Tobin bronze were rivited to
frames on either side of the topaides in
the midships section.

In all, on underbody and topsides, two
