Joseph Waish, a former com- mander of the northwest mounted po- lice, is to be appointed to the position. The party of mounted police to leave Manitoba next week for the gold coun- try has been increased from 20 to 35. They will take two maxim guns. The mining rules have been amended in an impo:tant particular. At present «miner is at liberty to stake out a claim vl feet’ running along with the stream and back tothe bank.
