DAVE WILLIAMSON SALES MANAGER Chrysler » Plymouth Dodge » Dodge Trucks Waneta Junction, Trail - 368-8295 @ Saturday, December 5, 1992 Remembering God at Christmas time Most people look forward to the Christmas season. It is a time of celebration; of reunion with friends and fami- ly; a time of feasting and of ex- change gifts. However, like any other good thing, Christmas can be abused, or it’s true meaning lost along the way. How about you? Are you aware of the deeper meanings of this special event that is celebrated each year? Did you know that the events of Christmas are very closely related to the events of Easter, and that both of these Pulpit & Pew Church of God Pastor Ira JOHNSON events are inescapably bound to the beginning of our world and the end of our world? These four events are forever bound together for the simple reason that Christ is the main character in the entire drama of history. When it comes right down to it... history is in reali- ty His story. SENTIMENTAL ABOUT A BABY It’s easy for almost anyone to become sentimental about a ba- by. The Christmas story most people know best involves Mary and Joseph, the angels and shepherds, the star and the wise- men, and the baby Jesus lying the manger there in Bethlehem. The humble simplicity of Mary and Joseph and the shep- herds is set against the backdrop of a guiding star, the nightsky suddenly set ablaze with the brilliance of a host of angels, who not only filled that sky with their light but with their song of joy patina baby -woquiy nag” to God in the highest... peace on earth, good will to men... for unto you is born i i parsieit es ky y born a savior who is What a blend of humanness and simplicity with the glory and condescending love of God. (St. Luke 2:1-14) All of heaven and all of nature rejoiced... when this baby was born. I wonder why? CHRIST’S STORY STARTS WITH CREATION Actually, Christ’s story has no beginning, for he is eternal, but as the Apostle John writes in his gospel: “Where anything else existed, there was Christ with God, he has always been alive and is himself God. He created every- thing there is... nothing exists that he didn’t make” (John 1:1- 3 Living Bible). What a tremendous display of power and majesty lies before each of us as we behold the universe around us. With the Psalmist we exclaim “O Lord, our God, the majesty and glory of your name fills all the earth and overflows the heavens.” (Psalm 8:1 Living Bible) The Apostle Paul reminds the colossians that Christ existed... “before all else began, and it is His power that hold everything to- gether!” (Colossians 1:17 Living Bible.) (Not only did Christ create the universe but His power holds together even now.) HE CAME TO SAVE US Christ humbled himself and entered human history for the express purpose of bringing wayward mankind back into harmo- ny with God. The only ransom price that could do this for all mankind... was for the very God of creation to take on a human form, to model and teach the truth of God to mankind, and most importantly to give his life as an atonement for the sins of mankind. Then, as our Easter celebration declares, he overcame the pow- er of death, and promised life and immortality to all who would aan from their sins and believe in Him. (1 Corinthians 15:45- CHRIST WILL HAVE THE FINAL WORD Isn’t it fitting and right that the one who created the universe; the one who made it possible for the wayward human race to be brought back into harmony with God through the love and sac- rifice of himself... is it not fitting that he also should have the fi- nal say... at the end of time? The Bible clearly teaches that every one of us will stand be- fore Christ in the final judgement (Romans 14:10-12; also see He- brews 10:26-31) if we have received the truth about Christ, and have welcomed him into our everyday lives, we have nothing to fear... we can look forward to eternity with the one who is is the author of life at it’s best. This Christmas season would be an opportune time to respond to the true greatness and worthiness of the one whose birth we now celebrate. Here’s A Hot Buy a live, potted tree this year.
