We returned home around | p.m. that day, after roughly 36 hours of no sleep, and we were all wiped. Another excursion, consisted of trips to Sara Buri, which is about 55 kilometres away. We travelled to Wat Phra Phudda-bat, a temple, which is built into the side of a mountain, and is full of caves and passages. Here we decided to go spelunking so we set out, three of us, armed with little more than two candles, a half-empty lighter, a lot of optimism and a fair chunk of stupidity. The thought of getting lost never even occurred to us because the caves go in, stop, and come back out. There are virtually no side passages so the trip is relatively ‘‘safe.’’ Exploring caves by candlelight — only in Thailand! I’m thoroughly disillusioned with Indiana Jones. However. He makes jt look so easy! After an uneventful first cave, I decided to take the Igad in the second. Now, you must remember, my depth “perception has never been good, and in flickering candlelight it is even worse. I managed to get so wound up in what I was doing that | forgot to look where I was putting my feet — I walked off an eight foot ledge. Sheer stupidity on my part. | must admit though that I do a really god Chevy Chase imitation. My friends freaked. Suddenly my candle just disappeared, and I was nowhere to be found. It was hectic, but we survived. I can’t wait to go again!!! On Oct. 21 I had another While writing a letter to Ruth and Jim, I heard a noise on my windowsill. A baby elephant who belongs to a dentist ‘was being taken for a walk, Only in Thailand!!!t Well, so ends my experiences and excursions. On Nov. 22-25, I will be attending a Rotary conference in Phuket, in Southern Thailand, and has a virtually untouched beach. Later, around the middle of December, I am hopefully going up north to Chaing Mai. Chaing Mai is reputed to be the most beautiful city and area in Thailand. If this is indeed true, then I'm in for a very rewarding trip. And so ends my acocunt of life in Thailand to date. I apologize if some of it reads like a travel brochure, but pis ea to explain it as best I can. I am unsure if I will write another letter of this magnitude before I return, but, I wish the best to everyone in Castlegar. AtMerry Christmas and may the New Year bring both luck and happiness. The most startling aspect of the research on the wine in the Bible will be the apostolic admonitions to men- tal vigilance and physical abstinence, like the one in Titus 2:11-14, Also the study of the medical reports on the physical effects of alcohol should be considered which will show the following: First, alcohol harms practically every major organ of the body. Second, some medical studies show that there is no such thing as moderate safe drinking, because even one drink can.put some brain cells temporarily out of commission, im- pairing attention, judgment, concen- tration and emotional balance. Medical research helps us ap- preciate why Scripture warns us not even to look at wine (Prov. 23:31).
