The Christmas Seal cam- paign runs through the end of January, and every household in the province receives a package of seals and a reply card for donations. Charters hopes that people put the seals on all their mail, even if they can’t afford to give this year, as a sign of support for BCLA. Women’s centre celebrates 20 years It Matters Who Makes It, a workshop examining the view- point of those who create me- dia images will be held Oct. 29 in Nelson. Kathleen Shannon, former- ly with the National Film Board, will present two short films and lead discussion about the significance of the film maker’s outlook. While comprised of images selected from the same source material, the films reveal very different perspectives, reflect- ing the difference viewpoints of the respective filmmakers. This workshop is the first in a series being held to help cel- ebrate the 20th anniversary of the Nelson and _ District Women’s Centre. Shannon worked for the National Film Board for 36 years. During that time, she founded and headed the NFBs Studio D, which has produced many outstanding films by and about women. Her work has been recog- nized through numerous awards including an honorary doctorate of was from Queens University, the Order of Cana- da and the Award for Excel- lence in Women and the Media from the Minister of Commu- nications. Most recently she has been selected to receive the 1992 Dobi Robb Award from medi- awatch, recognizing lifetime achievement for a woman in the media. Shannon now lives near Nelson, working as a writer, teacher and counselor. She has presented this workshop in many different venues, including the West Kootenay Women’s Festival in August. The workshop will be held on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. in the Elks Hall on Stanley Street in Nelson.
