a12 Wednesday, April 15, 1992 @ Androsoffs celebrate 60 John A Charters Castlegar pioneers John (Johnny) and Pearl Androsoff celebrated their diamond wed- ding anniversary recently with a family dinner and a home reception with a few close friends. The couple were married Feb. 16, 1932 at Champion Creek, when young Johnny Androsoff, a carpenter, fell in love and took the pretty Pearl Gebatkoff as his bride in a tra- ditional Doukhobor ceremony. The couple had five chil- dren, Pearl Filipoff, Bill An- drosoff, Jeanette Fenton, Louise Wishlow and Honya Shannon. Pearl has been very active in the Doukhobor community, as well as mother to her own and many other children who might be in her neighborhood. They lived for some years in Robson where Johnny built many of the summer homes along the edge of the lake. He then went to Cominco working in his trade as carpenter until his retirement, when the fam- ily moved to Castlegar where they now live. Since Johnny had suffered a recent severe illness, the guest list was limited and in- cluded only their children, their spouses — Fred Filipoff, Jan Androsoff, George Wishlow and grandchildren Marcie Jackson and great grandchild Daphne Jackson. Granddaughter Kathy Brown of Prince George and her two sons Andrew and Nicolas, as well as Blake and Natalie Androsoff of Portland, sent congratulations, as did Prime Minister Brian Mul- John and Pearl Androsoff roney. Old friends, Dr. John and Ruth Hall and John and Bun- ny Charters were the only non-family guests at the re- ception held in their home. At the home, the tradition- al cake was cut, presents re- ceived, congratulations warm- ly given and accepted and re- freshments enjoyed by all the company. When Pearl, whose merry sense of humor is always near the surface, was asked the usual question, “Have you — ever had any little quarrel in your sixty years of married life?” laughed and said, “No, never any little quarrels, ours were always big ones.” The largest picture in their home is their wedding picture so obviously they are still in love. “Studio Um | Lucy Nunes would like to welcome all her customers to her new hairdressing studio at 1911 Riverside : Crescent, Castlegar. Junko Tsukamoto played some lovely se- lections on the piano. Yuko Matamure played a Japanese instru- ment called a shamizen, to use it would be a three-string guitar. It is interesting to know that these strings are to be tuned differently for each tune that is to be played. Mari Fuyomoto was the graceful dancer. Their performance was enjoyed by all and the three were back for an encore. A delightful lunch was served, while the three female students made themselves at home, mingling with the members. A home-made souvenir was passed around and given to each senior members. Thirty-eight members attended the April 2nd meeting of the Senior Citizens Branch. With the president, Sarah Jacobson in the chair, the meeting was opened by the singing of “Oh Canada” and one verse of “Bless Be The Tide” with Margaret Trussler at the pi- ano. The minutes were read by Dorothy Ray- mond who was replacing Edna Dundas. On March 22nd a rammage and bake sale was held and was very successful. Their monthly dance is to be held April 25th. The social this month will be held April 30th in the form of a pot luck supper. Linda Baker from the Castlegar Home Support spoke on nutrition, featuring grains to use in preparing the food.
