The Castlegar Sun Ann ‘Landers Syndicated Columnist Dear Ann Landers: I don't Suppose you ride the bus very often, but I'm on a bus five or six days every week and have something to say that I hope you will print. It’s important You cannot imagine how innoying it is to have one of those “slightly” overweight peo- ple sit down next to you and, for ill practical purposes, end up partially on your lap. When one of these characters heads toward me, I let him or her know imme- fiately that there is not room -nough for both of us. Invari- ibly the reply is an angry one that goes something like this: "I um just as entitled to a seat as you are.” I would agree, Ann, if that person took up only one seat But some of those hippos take 1p'a seat and a half or even two When I get on the bus and see in obese person already seated, [ make it a point not to sit next to him or her. Actually, I would rather stand. I know I'm lucky that I don't have a weight prob- lem, but those who do have no nght to penalize the rest of us. I'd love to see this in print, Ann. A lot of people need to see tt. -- A Stim Lady from Pico Rivera, Calif Dear Pico: Here's your letter. You say a lot of people need to see it. Well, a lot of people need to see my answer, too. What exactly do you expect overweight folks to do --_ walk, run or fly to work because peo- ple like you don't want to sit next to them? Overweight individuals have enough problems with self- esteem without insensitive clods like you knocking them down with cruel remarks and making them feel like social lepers How about a little compassion, lady? Dear Ann Landers: I am a 27-year-old school teacher, mar- ned for 1S months to "Vernon," who is 28 and also teaches school. Vernon is the finest man I have ever met, and our mar- riage 1s wonderful, except for one thing. We have never had sex. We both want a family (at least three children), but when- ever I bring the subject up Ver- non says, “Yes, we ought to get in touch with some adoption agencies." T have told him I want to have my OWN children and he says, "It's not necessary.” His theory is that sex has been the cause of most of the trouble in the world and since we seem to. get along So well without it, there is no reason to "spoil things.” No one has the slightest notion that Vernon thinks like this, and I want to keep it to myself. Our marriage is wonder- ful and we really get along beautifully, but I do want to have my own children, Ann Please tell me what to do. -- Something Missing in Dixie Dear Dixie: Let me get this straight -- you have been mar- ried to Vernon for 15 months and have never had sex with him because he feels it would ‘spoil things.” And you think your marriage is “wonderful.” Sounds like you two were made for each other. Vernon should see a doctor arid find out why his battery is dead, and you need to see a counselor to learn why you have been so passive. Good luck to you both +o* POLLAINE E. EMDE 1480 COLUMBIA AVE.
