Fifty tons of ore have already been shipped, and there are 200 tons at the roine ready-for shipment. Work on the new road up Four Mile will be commenced before long. “There are a number of fine proper- ties in the vicinity of the Fisher Maiden. The Thompson group, on the same ledge, hasa large body of ore. The owners have sbipped over . 100 tons during the winter. The mine is developed {nearly 1000 feet. This section is now attracting consid- erable attention and a number of transfers or claims have been re- corded.” Mr. Watson will go up to the Arlington, on Springer creek, in the course of a few days. Considerable excitement ia caured here over the recent strike on the Star and Crescent claim on the La ur lead, some seven miles west of 1 Forks, on -the reservation. Phere have been six men employed for several weeks past on this claim, who are now in over 30 feet. Theore recently struck was rich in copper, several pounds of which have been sent to Spokane for assaying pur- poses. It is generally believed now that the Star and Crescent is a“ dis- tinct extension of the “En Fleur, as the ores are similar in character. Colonel Stratton; one of the owners of the Star and Crescent, said yester- day: “We began work on the prop- erty about two weeks ago and have the tunnel in about 40feet. The vein js looking fine. The assays made from ore sent down we-e as: follows: Assay No. 1, silver $19.78; assay No. 2, silver, $2.95, copper, $14.40.” —— SPOKANE SILVER MINE. Marin Markeson Has Discoverrd Near Spokane a Rich Silver Mine. — A few daye ago-Marin Markeeon, a mining man brought word to Spokane of a rich strike in a eilyer mine about 30 miles from Spokane, on the Little Spokane river, not far from the Spo- kane Belle property... .Mr. Markeson said: “The claim was located last fall and work hag been quietly. pushed all winter with good- results. A ledge from four to eight feet wide having been uncovered. The-assays run well in silver and lead. When [visited the property pieces of galena weigh- iag from 40 to 50 poundg,-were being taken out of the mine, “The discoverer was Fred Pindall. and he has disposed of an in- terest in the claim to A; Allen, of Half Moon pralrie,. J. M. Moore and M. Kelly of . Deer Park, “The owners: havo received a propo- sition from parties familiar with the property to put in a 30-ton plant- to treat the ore.” The assay values furnished by Mr. Markeson would make the ore worth over $80 a ton: -Such ore as that, will stand shipment and would~ not’ re- quire local treatment, especially as the mine is but a_short distance from the railroad, -This ore is better than the average Slocan product. It is hardly possible, however, that a-prop- erty of such value could be .s0 near Spokane and unknown, —— i BROKE THROUGH TBE ICE. A Prospector Has-a Narrow Escape on Upper Arrow Lake. ” Sam Hill, the well-known prospec- tor of Galena Bay, had a narrow escape on Thuraday. He was en- deavoring to cross the ice on the Arm, walking from Arrowhead: to the bay, and was making for a point near W. Pool’s old cabin, when the ice™ gave way beneath him. He hat! to break through a hundred yards of rotten ice before finding any firm enough to bear his weight, and was three-quarters of anhourin the water. After getting out be made his way: back to Arrow- head, drenching wet and showing signs of his long struggle for life in the treacherous ice. THE IDAHO: MINE.
