Man’s Suicide Aimed

At Illness

Melvin Gordon of Spokane

was dead only a few minutes
before his body was found, but
in those few minutes the
purpose of his death perished
as well.
‘His widow says it was a
wish to give his kidneys to his
ailing sister in Michigan that
led him to take his own life
recently while sitting in his car
outside a hospital emergency
Toom,
Gordon had told his wife he
would do almost anything to
restore his sister's health. “He
loved all of his family very
much,” she said.

He also was apparently
depressed about a seasonal
layoff from his job as a boiler-
maker, she said.

Gordon, 38, put a rifle
muzzle to his head and fired one
shot. His body was found
moments later, but kidneys for
transplants must be taken from
a body at the moment of death

“unavoidable” and nuclear
plants will be widespread in the
country by 2,000.
