Our Inventory Must Be Reduced to “The B.C. fire code re. quires that gasoline be dis pensed only into CSA (Can adian Standards Association) or ULC (Underwriters’ Lab of Canada) approved con- tainers. The responsibility for meeting this requirement rests with the service station attendant.” “The regulations also require that no person shall have in their possession any flammable liquid ex- ceeding five gallons without first obtaining a permit from the local assistant to the fire commissioner.” Castlegar Fire Chief Bob Mann issues permits for pos session and storage. But to cars after issuing over 30 such permits, Mann was told by Pulpit By Pastor ROBERT LIVELY Calvary Church APPROVING THINGS EXCELLENT & Pew Choices to be made? See if your decision fits with his scriptural guideline: “Whatever is true, whatever is h i is Life is full of and choices. Some of these choices lie in the area of our religious beliefs. What church should I attend? Is there a right church? If so, it implies that same are wrong and must be avoided. How dangerous are the false cults? What about the Eastern religions? Should I give support to the latest appeal from the television evangelist? Then there are secular decisions that also have moral or religious im- plications. For example, should I read pornographic material? Should I buy lot- tery tickets? Do I believe in abortion-on-demand? The list is endless. Christians believe God has given us two indispensable guides in order to get an- swers to otherwise very complex questions. He has given us the Bible and His Holy Spirit. Writing in Phil- ippians 1:9,10, the apostle Paul prays for his friends in these words, “that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve the things that are excellent,” The late Karen Carpenter was not wrong when she sang of the present need in the world for love, real love. The apostle, Paul, however, would go beyond that and remind us that love must be mixed with knowledge and discernment. Love without knowledge can be dangerous and down- right sinful. That knowledge so needful for us to have is the knowledge of God's will for us. That will of God is revealed in His Word which is illumi to us by the the fire it that under the fire services act, a separate permit is required for the transportation of the gas from the service station. “I will be saying, first get that permit and then come to me,” Mann told the Castlegar News. The application must state, “the location or premises in which the flammable or com. bustable liquid is to be kept or had; and the capacity and type of container in which the fl ble: or b HERITAGE WEEK Feb. 15 to 21 The Castlegar Railway Station Will be Open with Numerous Local Displays for Public Viewing Tues. & Thurs. Feb. 168 18 & Sat. Feb. 20 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entertainment by the Old Time Fiddlers and Selkirk Weavers Displays liquid is to be kept or had,” the Fire Services Act says. Mann says he won't issue a permit to anybody living within the city limits because of the danger to the neigh. bors. Who may apply for a permit?” The fire services act says, anyone who has a “demonstrated need” for gasoline, such as contractors, loggers, truckers aside from that kept in vehicle tanks in an approved five gallon con- tainer. It doesn’t say any- thing about non-commercial use. “Transportation is covered Holy Spirit. How do we make right choices? Those choices must be motivated by love which is shed in our hearts by God's Spirit (Rom. 5:55). They must also be in keeping with the wisdom of scripture. But the Bible is not just a book of rules. Right choices will be made as we learn great principles from scripture. is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good reputation, if there is any excellence and if any- thing worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.” (Philippians 4:8). Those things judged right, and true, and pure, spoken of here, are not so according to perverted human standards. Rather, these are things for which God, who is ab- solutely holy, sets the stan: dard that must be met. Thankfully, He has revealed His will in the Bible. “All scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped by every good work.” (11 Timothy 3:16,17). Greatest of all, God has provided us salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ, without whom we cannot have any understand- ing or true wisdom. Paul prays in Colossans 2:2 and 3 that we may have “the wealth that comes from the full assurance of understand- ing, resulting in a true know- ledge of God's mystery, that is, Christ Himself, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Right decisions in life begin with a confession of our utter ignorance apart from a knowledge of Jesus Christ. Having gained a knowledge of Christ and sins forgiven, we then must study God’s Word and seek to walk in the full light of the Spirit. Then we will start to make mature decisions. The only right decisions are those that please God. We please God when we give His Son and His Spirit their rightful place in our lives. We please God when we know and obey His Word. The book of Hebrews talks of God's Word and “solid food” and says it.is “for the mature, who because of practise have their senses trained to dis- cern good and evil.” (5:14).
