It was a very cold and hard morning, it was the morning of Dec. 31st, 1984. That night a murder was going to take place, right at Kinnaird Elementary School. This murder was never investigated until the year 2000. Doing the investigation was Mr. Zanet himself because he wanted to get this over with, so he could start up the school again. He, the police and I went and made a tour of the school. When we entered the office we could hear the hum of the computer, and the faint background music of Elvis. As we walked through the hall ways we heard the talking of children and the banging of instrument cases and then the stomping of feet going towards the gym. Then we heard the slam- ming of doors and the sound of the song, Big Rock Candy Mountain and as we walked up and down the hall ways we noticed something different; paintings and murals on the walls. After that we went to the police office to interview the Par- ent Advisory Committee. “Where were you on the night of December 31st?” we said. “We were at one of our meetings,” they answered. “And what exactly do you do at these meetings?” “We discuss concerns and address concerns that come up and we try to resolve Sagar Provide educational information for parents and children.” “Okay let em go.” This interviewing business went on for another week until we found the per- fect suspect. His name was Mr. Hook. One of his arms was a hook. When we looked at the charts that were made by the doctors who examined the body, we found hook marks in it so we interviewed him. “Where were you on the night of December 31st?” “I was at a party,” said Mr. Hook. “What time did you get home from that party?” “Around 10:00 p.m.” (we found out that he actually left that par- ty at 9:20 p.m., he had just enough time to murder someone. “Okay lock him up. We have enough evidence.” We later found out that the person was murdered at exactly 9:31 p.m. But the next day there was no Mr. Hook or anything, he had just disappeared. There was no way of escape accept if he was a Ghost, Ghost, Ghost; Ghost. And then all of a sudden I woke up. It was all a dream. Thank goodness. Nobody reads the book I’m in because it’s be- hind all the other books. In the library the kids like to play on the computers, read books, and color pictures. One day the librarian was counting the books and she came across the one I was in. She told the kids that she had found a new book, she started flipping the pages and when she came to the two pages I were in I fell out. The next thing I knew I was on the ground and almost got stepped on. I went out of the library and went into the gym to watch the kids play basketball they like the sports and they were having a lot of fun. I went into each classroom and saw all the kids doing what they like best. Some were having Math, some were doing Art, and some were just reading quietly and a kid almost dropped a book on me. I went into the office, climbed on the desk, fell on the typewriter and almost got stuck in the keys. I got out in one piece and crawled VISIT TO THE LIBRARY into Mr. Zanet’s office, he doesn’t get mad at people but he gives his helpers candy. Wow what a nice principal. I walked out of the office down the hall, and into Mrs. Shimell’s grade three class there wasn’t anything there ex- cept the smell of hot dogs that were in the room for lunch from the Parents Advisor Committee and.a little book worm like me. He was crying. I asked him, “Why are you crying?” he said he was lost and wanted to be in a book in the library: I told him I would show him where the library was and we could stay in the same book together. He said, “That sounds great!” Ihad a lot of fun visiting all of Kinnaird Ele- mentary but my favorite things about it are the kids, my. new friend, and the library. I’m glad I’m in a book with my new friend behind all the other books where nobody can find us for another where nobody can find us for another two years. Maybe next year or in a few more years I can visit Kinnaird again!
