Deaths by heart The leading cause of death in Castlegar and the surrounding area in 1963 was heart ailments, atcord- ing to the 1963 annual re- port of the West Kootenay Health Unit. Last year heart ailments claimed 141 lives in the area covered by the health unit — which includes Castlegar, Trail, Fruitvale, Grand Forks, Greenwood and Rossland. caused ailments The second highest cause was cancer, which led to the deaths of 52 people. Accidents and violent deaths claimed 21 lives in 19838 — a 22 per cent reduction over 1982 when 27 people died in this man- ner. Kazakoff funeral begins tonight Nancy Kazakoff of Castle- gar passed away Oct. 1 at the age of 67. She was born Nov. 4, 1916 at Brilliant, and at an early age she moved with her parents to Benito, Man. where she grew up. In 1987, she moved to Shoreacres where she lived for a short time before moving to Long Beach on Kootenay Lake. She married Peter Kazakoff in 1988 and in the same year they moved to Grand Forks, and then in 1962 to Kinnaird. Mrs. Kazakoff was a mem- ber of the Union of Spiritual Communities of Christ, the Kinnaird Ladies Cooking Group and the Brilliant Choir. She enjoyed knitting. crochetting and She was also an avid reader. She is survived by her husband Peter of Castlegar; ason, John of Castlegar; two daughters, Mrs. Tim (Kathy) Horeoff of Castlegar and Mrs. Walter (Janice) Konkin of Ootischenia; three grandchil dren; and one brother, Peter Popoff of Blewett. She was predeceased by one son, Peter, and a brother, Fred.
