S. E. Blanchard, superin- tendent of ferriés, said in a Nov. 8 letter to the Regional District of Central Kootenay said the ministry planned to replace the existing Glade ferry “over this coming win- ter.” Blanchard's letter was in response to a Nov. 5 letter from the RDCK board ask- ing for improvéments to Glade ferry service. The RDCK letter was one of a number of communications from residents and area elected officials complaining about the condition of the existing ferry. Responding to the School District No. 9 board's letter requesting an upgrad- ing of ferry service, a Nov. 5 letter from a Nelson high- ways district official said the board's criticisms of the existing ferry reflected prob- lems that. were “either mis- represented or overstated.” “Hull wear has occurred ‘in two areas where the bottom occasionally touches, and minor ieaking has been f regional high- way engineer W.
