Castlégar News septeriber7. 1986 Pulpit & Pew By PASTOR VICTOR is part of our society. It has become the rather @ Have a cheerful friendly countenance (smile) @ Learn and remember their name. e@ Ask appropriate ques tions which reflect interest and than the rule to have people remain in one location for more than 10 years. Reasons for mobility vary. Some are within our control, while others are outside the realm of our choosing. At times it may be a promotion involving moving into another community. On the other hand, it may be due to a slow down of pro- duction, resulting in layoffs. Opportunities for work may arise in another community, another province or even in another country. So we are on the move again. The difficulties involved in moving are increased when you are married and have a family In my moves as a pastor, our family always viewed the next church as a challenge to see opportunities of God at work in us and through us. However, it was of greater difficulty for our children who were uprooted from the familiarity of community, school, church, recreational activities and most of all, from friends. Some friendships develop and become very intimate; others are a close friendship, more are on the casual friend- sftp level, while there may be a host of those who are on the acquaintance level. “In order to have friends one must show oneself friendly.” From experience this is a reality. Often, when seeking friends, moving in need to take the initiative. Those living there have already established their circle of friends on various levels and those moving in may be an in trusion on friendships al ready developed. In our moving as a pastor and family, we have always had a natural door open to us through the calling into a church. However, we still have to deal with levels of friendship which need to be developed. The following has been a help in understanding the levels of friendship available to us and in developing friendships. These notes come from a seminar called “Basic Youth Conflicts.” The Acquaintance Level: e Be alert to each new person around you.
