The free visit is part of a new program being imple- mented in dental offices throughout British Colum- bia. “The First Dental yee rogram, being launche this week, was developed by the College of Dental Sur- geons of B.C. in conjunction with the B.C. Ministry of Health, to promote preven- tive dental health practices in young children. The program is targeted to children between two and a half and three years of age, when most — or all — of their first teeth will have erupted. In scheduled dental ap-~ pointments, children will receive an orientation to the dental office and a visual check of their teeth. Services will also include an oral hygiene consulta- tion with parents. Executive installed for the coming year were Bernice Beckstead, president; Laurie Anderson, vice-president; Sue Pop-off, secretary; Elaine Au- det, treasurer. Members were introduced to Mr. Everette Surgenor, new superintendent of Schools /Chief Executive Officer for School District No. 9 (Castle- gar), effective August 1. Surgenor gave a_ brief overview of his background in education and commented on IN MENORY Harold Creighton On Friday, May 22, 1992, Harold Creighton of Castlegar passed away at the age of 78 years. Funeral service will be held at the Castlegar Funeral Chapel on Thursday May 28, 1992 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Art Turnbull and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #170 officiating. Cremation has taken place and burial of the ashes will take place at Park memorial Cemetery. Mr. Creighton was born October 21, 1913 at Brandon, Manitoba. He grew up in Brandon and moved to Trail in 1936 and began working for Cominco. In 1942 he enlisted in the army and served until 1945. After the war, he returned to Cominco, working until 1948 when he opened Creightons meat Market which he operated until 1955: He returned to Cominco in 1955 and retired in 1975. He continued cutting meat after his retirement and real- ly enjoyed looking after the hunters in the area. He married Freda King on December 13, 1942. Harold was a member of the Canadian Legion Branch #170. He is survived by his wife Freda, son, Patrick and daughter-in-law Catherin, two grandchildren, three brothers, Alex of Surrey, Charlie of Portland, Oregon and Ken of Brandon, Manitoba. He was predeceased by one sister, Mary Johnston. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cancer Fund, Box 3292, Castlegar or the Castlegar Hospice Society, 629 Columbia Ave., Castlegar, B.C. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Castlegar Funeral Chapel. Alice Isabel Dyck On Thursday, May 21, 1992, Alice Isabel. Dyck of Castlegar passed away at the age of 73 years. Funeral service were held at the Kinnaird Church of God on Monday, May 25, 1992 with Pastor Ira Johnson officiat- ing. Interment followed at Park Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Dyck was born July 31, 1918 at Winnipeg, where she grew up and married Harold Hazen Switzer in 1942. Mr. Switzer passed away in 1951. She married Albert Dyck on July 4, 1953 in Winnipeg and shortly after their marriage, they moved to Williams Lake. In 1983 they came to Castlegar. Mrs. Dyck was a past. member of the United Church Womens Group of the Foothills United Church while in his interest in current technol- ogy. Surgenor has been appoint- ed to a three-year term. Chapter president, Bernice Beckstead presented Surgenor with a logo pin from the Learning Disabilities As- sociation. Members also viewed a new video entitled “About Us: Adults with Learning Disabil- ities” from the Learning Dis- ere Association of Cana- The video showed four adults speaking about their disability and the difficulties, challenges and achievements they had experienced. A discussion period fol- lowed with a recommendation to write to the Learning Dis- abilities Association of Cana- da congratulating them for producing such an informative and high quality production. She was an avid antique collector and is well known for her doll collection which numbers over 500. She is survived by her husband Albert, two sons, Ted Switzer of Robson and Daniel Dyck of Calgary, three Daughters, Suzy Ratke and Madelaine Dyck of Castlegar and Gwen Bakema of Calgary, 10 grandchildren, three brothers, David MacDonald of Ontario, Robert and James MacDonald of Winnipeg, two sisters, Ruby Smith of Rossland and Lily DesRosier of Winnipeg.
