‘*Where you get into trouble is the
parent will say, ‘My kid has really
got talent and I’m going to show him
how to do this.’ So they go back
home and practise two more hours.

“So the kid is not throwing six in-
nings a week. He’s throwing the
equivalent of 15 or 20 innings,’’ said
Jobe.

Too much throwing, not throwing
itself, is the problem for kids of Lit-
tle League age, said Jobe.

‘What about the curveball?

“I don't recommend it, but I
don’t think the curve in itself is as
bad as we (medical specialists) would
have them believe. It doesn’t show
that way in our laboratory. when we
compare throwing straight to curve.’’

Ryan Fontes got his fourth goal
in two. games as the Castlegar
Kickers beat the Rossland Hotspurs
4-2 Wednesday in one of three games
played in the Castlegar Minor Soccer
League

Ryan Wenger and Kevin Pacheco
scored the other goals for the Kickers
in the victory on their home field at
Kiwanis Park.

The Kickers improved their record
to 1-1,

In the other game in the 11-and-
12-fear-old division, the Beaver
Valley Flames beat the Castlegar
Tornado 2-1 in Beaver Valley.

John Pucci scored the only goal
for the Tornado, which also has a 1-
1 record in the first week of minor
soccer play.

In the 13-and-14-year-old age
division, the Castlegar X-Men were
shut out 2-0 by the Warfield Lions at
Haley Park in Trail.

The X-Men will look for their first
win of the season when they take on
the Beaver Valley Hustlers Monday
at Kiwanis Field at 5:30 p.m.

Immediately following that game,
the. Kickers and Tornado will meet
each other for the first time this
season.
