Our esteemed contemporary, the Miner, is greatly exercised over the an- nouncement that the C. P. R. will build from Robson to Rossland. Ordinarily one would think it would hail with de- light such news as the construction of such a line would tend to bring about a cheaper freight rate for Roesland and hetp solve the problem of cheap reduc- tion of our ores. The trouble, no doubt, is Mr. Heinze might be hurt. The great corporation, the C. P. R., can and may crush him. If there are any con- cessions to be given to railroads by the Dominion government for a line to the Boundary country, it is feared the Cana- dian Pacific wil get them, and those fears are well founded. Of couree an independent line from here to the. coast would be much preferred to an exten- sion of the C. P. R. because it would give this section the benefit of competi- tion, but the Boundary country would be better off if it is to have but one line, to have one that reaches everywhere. Experience teaches that the .small,. ex- clusive; rai ds sre greater istathan large ones. Competition in the railroad business ie the ealve that gives the people relief. Acrobatic Fetes.
