The snow we've been expecting finally arrived Sunday evening. When I left the arena after the hockey game it started to come down and by Monday morning my front porch had a good five inches on it. The game was our first look at this year's edition of the Columbia Valley Rockies and I wouldn't hesitate to say they are definitely the class club of the KIJHL. Ex-Trail Junior Smokie coach Tom Rennie has built himself a pretty smooth team this season and they could easily tum out to be the league champs by playoff time. The Warriors got two goals from Willie Brunz and singles from Ivan Czach, Jay Neilsen and Kevin Hoey in a five-goal splurge in the second, and looked to be in the driver's seat. But it was not to be. Rossland dropped six points behind Castlegar and had better watch those Nitehawks now when they play them Saturday at the arena. The remaining games against the Hawks are crowded into the last month of the regular season - two in Rossland and three in the Valley- and those games may decide who winds up in the basement in the West. During the week I took a trip over to the curling rink to see tlie big guns in the Retirees Club. I find three rinks tied with 3-1 records, Norm Harry, Roy Fines and Russ Broughton. Phil Bateman, Red Monroe and Jake Lilburn each have two wins and two losses. Angus Popplewell boasts one tie and one loss. Dan Burnett and Bert Morrow each have just one win with Dan having a tie and two losses and Bert three losses. Bob Stevenson is winless in four starts. The boys were just starting on their fifth games as I left the arena which will see the first competition half completed. I may start in the second competition, that largely depends on what I hear from the doctor on Dec. 2. Right now I have the good wife in the hospital and hope to find out more about that tomorrow when I visit her. Things are beginning to look up at the Legion as Christmas looms in the offing. Several events have gone 9ver quite successfully and an election of officers for a new executive is in the near future. This is always interesting, knowing who will be in charge in a year in which it is hoped Branch 14 will make a complete recovery from the doldrums which have plagued it for quite awhile now. Andnow, 'Til next time then!
