stinking propaganda,” said Dr. Martin Gillieson, Ottawa
General Hospital's director of gynecological
technique the film uses to make a fetus visible in a womb

reaction to the abortion, is not a scream at all.

He said the ultrasound image is not even showing the
fetal profile during the sequence, and that the gap in the
image supposed to be the open mouth is the space between
the fetus’s head and chest.

DISTORTS TRUTH -

Gillieson says he's viewed the film seven times, and
each time has become more convinced that it is “a distortion
of the truth.”

Hall called the film “artfully selected and -artfully

lescribes as “a child being torn apart, dismembered, constructed” and said it “remains one, in some ways” of Nazi
crushed and destroyed by the unfeeling steel instruments of

propaganda.

Betty Smith, a spokeswoman for Action Life, said she's
familiar with the criticism of the film, but stands by its
authenticity.

Smith said the validity of the film has been attested to
by Dr. Mark Patry, an Ottawa gynecologist,

Patry says he has seen only four minutes of the film and
was only able to confirm the fetus is somewhere around 12
weeks old.

Patry said he told the group the silent scream sequence
might in fact show an open mouth, but just as easily could be
a picture of some other part of the fetus’s head.

During the sequence in whic Nathanson says the fetus is
very agitated by the pi of abortion
Patry said the fetus showed jerky movements which are
quite common in the womb.
