The soapstone carvings of Fran
Jenkins and Bill and Ruby
Cameron are nothing if not
natural,

Bears, cougars, beavers,
owls, almost every animal you
could care to name that lives in
the Revelstoke area has been
carved from the rich, rare
variety of soapstone the trio of
artists use.

It was the outdoors the
artists love that gave them the
rock. Found by Bill about four
years ago on a logging trip and

* subsequently claimed by the

change in lifestyle but not in
basic ideals.

“We all love the outdoors,
Bill especially,” said Fran, “we
never want to get away from

And although their beauti-
ful carvings sell for very
respectable prices in’ Vancou-
ver, Montreal and Quebec City,

part of the reason they contin-
ue, after more’ than two years,
to carve animals of the forest.

Fran ‘was, and still is, a
housewife. -She has two chil-
dren and a husband . who
provides good critical support.
“He can'see things with fresh
eyes. He is very important to
our work.”
