T have been very gratified in recent weeks by the number of people who have asked me why my columns have not been appearing in the paper. Truth is, I was feeling a wee bit tired after a long curling season and thought I would give myself a bit of a holiday to recover. I won't say that this effort will be the first of a new set of regular contributions, but I will try to keep those interested up-to-date on the more im- portant events of the Pen- sioner’s golf calendar. I will not be handling news from the regular club, though, as I think it is time someone else had a chance at that. Since the start of the golf. season, there has been a goodly representation of Seniors at our usual Thursday. morning - get- * togethers. The weatherman has cooperated very nicely—May- 26 was the only washout and even then a few hardy souls braved the elements and played the usual nine holes. Attendance has varied with anything from 18 to 34 golfers showing up. As usual, The Wizard’s Palace Funteria 1s Coming To Castlegar See Adon : Entertainment Page there have been a few new faces in evidence, among them Ernie Mills, Carl Loeblich and Jack Young. Matters for the day were in the eapable hands of ‘Old Reliable’ Mike Verzuh and his assistant for the day, Claude Bissell. Claude was very mysterious about the sort of game being played, but it must have been on the up-and-up, since I won a ball. Other winners were Peter Murphy,.-.Ernie> Carkner, recruit), a Mr. Palmer (no first name available), Mike Verzuh Player of the Week between Armanda Cordoso of Twin Rivers with “Everyone Should Learn to Swim” and Brenda Hadikin of Pass Creek with “Don't Fish When Its Bad Weather"; Grade 4, Maria Resendes of Twin Rivera with “Don't Panic or You Wil Never Swim.” All winning, entries Fecsive 10 free tickets for use at the (naturally), Curt Waterman, Jim (Down the Middle) Kelly, George Wilson, Ernie Fitzpat- rick, Fred Makaroff and Nor- man Fishwick. Last week was a double- barrelled one, since we had a visit from the Trail Seniors on Friday morning. Twenty-four Trai! members had signed up but only 18 came and enjoyed a real good’ morning's. golf. Twenty-four of our own mem- bers were on hand to welcome and play with the visitors and the weather was ideal, so a ood time was had by all.
