Dodds won the 3.5-kilometre hill climb from Trail to Warfield Saturday in a time of seven minutes, 55 seconds. He also won the downtown Trail criterium event Saturday evening which went under a 30-minute plus five-lap format. Cowan won the 50-kilometre road race Sunday which went from Trail to Salmo via Columbia Gardens, Cowan's time was one hour, 15 minutes, 2) seconds. Dodds was second. Clay second in province Castlegar golfer Lorne Kanigan fired an 18-hole total of 71 — three over par — in claiming top honors at the Copytron golf tournament in Nelson Sunday. Kanigan — who also won the long-drive event on the sixth hole — led Ci to the team ch i ip with a score of 304, the combined strokes of the city's four best golfers. The team from Nelson was second at 314. Castlegar’s Denise Pottle was the overall low gross champion in the girls’ divsiion, beating out Ali Mclvor of Nelson. The tournament was played at the Nelson Golf and Country Club and was attended by 58 golfers aged eight to 19. Two regattas this summer Jaret Clay finished second in the province in the 1500m-racewalk event at the B.C. high school track and field championships in Vancouver earlier this month. Clay was one of four Stanley Humphries secondary school athletes to compete at the i ips held in V: . He completed the 1500m-racewalk in a time of seven minutes, 44 seconds. He will be going to Vancouver in July to try out for the junior national team. Schoolmate Dale Fitchett placed ninth in the province in the 800m event. Fitchett travelled the distance in two minutes. Dan Davidoff was ninth in the triple jump. He jumped 12.65 metres. Heath Clement was 20th in the 400m hurdles with a time of 65.2 seconds. Michelle Graham, Stacey Cominco retiree dies Matthew M. (Matt) Ladoon of Grand Forks passed away suddenly May 29, 1988 at Boundary Hospital. He was 68. Mr. Ladoon was born Nov. 7, 1919 at Arborg, Man. the son of Alex and Pearl Ladoon. He grew up and re- ceived his schooling at Churchill, Man. He later. lived and worked as a carpenter in Kelowna and Trail beforé moving to Grand Forks in 1983. He retired from Cominco in 1984. He liked the outdoors and garden- ing. He attended the Gospel Chapel. He is survived by companion, Nancy Verigin of Grand Forks; three sons, Brian of Churchill, Man., and Leon- ard and Dale, both of Edmonton; one daughter, Karen Mitterer of Lang- ley; one granddaughter and three sisters, living in Mani — Recreation news It’s Time to Say ‘‘Thank You’’ Through Our summer swim and program brochures are now available at the recreation office.
