We can give Him our Iffe, and in return He will give us joy, happiness, peace and salvation. To put meaning into Christ-. mas, is to know the Saviour. Rev. David G. Low Full Gospel Assembly Fruitvale, B.C. The Messia _ ‘The Word Became Flesh’ As Christmas comes again into our lives, we focus upon the Infant Christ and ask, who is this Babe who was to change history? : When Christ came ‘2,000 years ago, most people did not accept Him — some even per- secuted Him. Large numbers were confused about Him. But a small core strongly: believed, following Him even to death. Today, history repeats it- self. There are activists in the world, who would like to erase Him from the minds of all and would crucify Him anew if they could. Books and films are made about Him, picturing Him in the most distorted manner, There are, however, large numbers of people who say nice things about Christ; that He was a great humanitarian, con- cerned about social problems of His day. But — they do not xp Him as He really is. Larger numbers, even some Christians, are still con- fused about Christ. They are not sure if He was Divine, or if He brought a message for us, or if He really knew who He was. Our'shared Christian faith tells us who Christ is — the Son of God made man, the long-' expected Messiah, the Master of our lives, the Saviour of the world. Although we may study Christ all our lives — He is a mystery we can never probe, completely. He is really God and really Man. If weread the Good News - - the Gospels - we learn that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life - our Friend who always helps us. He is the image of the invisible God — the Joy of this tired world, the True Shepherd, Who guides men to their des- tmies beyond time. Our Christian faith further * tells us that Christ is present with us teday as He promised — in the Christian community of all believers and of all peoples — in His Word. For Christians, Christmas is the greatest event of all, an event full of faith — hope and love — a turning point for all mankind and for each of us. St. _ John put it well: “And the -|| Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” To all of you, my blessing and wish for a blessed Christ- mas. Rev. Joseph B. Barnes Holy. Make Room For the Prince Of Peace Once upon a time there was a peaceful valley, nestled between lofty mountain peaks, through which there wound scenic paved highways to the next valley and beyond to valleys and mountains, In the valley bottom lived a lively community of laborers, mill workers, highway crews, school teachers and storekeep- ers. The valley was far from the big city, and for most people only the daily newspapers and television programs linked * them with their fellow citizens in the’ nation. The valley people enjoyed their way of life, cutting grass in the summer, shovelling snow in the winter, and in between times, taking advantage of beautiful mountain lakes, streams, and ski-hills nearby. Many years had passed, since their fathers and mothers had tamed the wilderness and - established pleasant, produc- * tive, prospering communities which to live. There was no better place to raise the chil- dren, and new. generations were now being born to enjoy the life in the valley. Life . moved on, But sometimes in the eyes and on the lips of these busy people a question formed, scarcely audible, yet, often lurking in the backroads of their minds. Each year it was the same. As golden tones of autumn gave way to wintery scenes of wonder, the sights and sounds of Christmas once again set foot in the valley. -' Spring. Summer. Fall. Winter, Christmas store lights twinkled. Toy displays dazzled. Grocery jingled. Home smells signalled Christmas cakes, pastries, mince meat, and roast turkey. They asked, “Is this all there is?” “Is there not something more? Does life cqnsist only of these sights, these sounds, these people, these treats?” And there were many who knew the answer. They knew, whether it is Christmas time or summer time, there is some- thing more to life than the food we eat, the friends we meet, the things we do. There is the peace of God, made real to us by tlie Prince of Peace, born, now 2,000 years ago in the village of Bethlehem. Jesus did not come to establish big governments, -good as they may be. He,did not come to legislate peace. He came, the “only begotten Son of God” to bring peace between God and man, to cleanse our hearts. He came, so that all who would receive Him, would know God's forgiveness and peace, the real gifts of Christmas. Jesus came to be the only Saviour for a world, otherwise lost, in the maze of earthly things. peacefil dnountai#, valley who, . continued on page 16 .
