Kate; who desperately wants to help her friend but. is uncertain about her ability to be a sub- stitute mother, then moves in with Holly and Jenny to sam- ple the role. Rees and Oxenberg star as unhappy royal couple BY FELICIA A. FEASTER Yaga! currently occupy- ‘ ing the tabloid back- burner, the original troubled Prince and Princess - Charles and Diana - are the regal cou- ple of the week in “Charles & Diana: Unhappily Ever After” (ABC, Dec. 15). Starting with the romance-novel wedding, the film spares no detail of the subsequent imperiled relation- ship. Roger Rees (“Cheers”) Catherine Oxenberg and Catherine Oxenberg (“Dy- nasty”) play the titular pair. e George Lucas (“Star Wars”) and Ron Howard (“Far and Away”) butted their cre- ative heads together to make “Willow” (Fox, Dec. 14), a sword-and-sorcery special-ef- fects bonanza about the ef- forts of a kindly dwarf (War- wick Davis) to protect a messianic infant from the forces of evil. Although direc- tor Howard indulges in dis- plays of preciousness a little too often, it is to be excused, for he compensates by keeping the action rolling at a steady clip. Val Kilmer (“The Doors”) and Joanne Whalley (“Scan- INFOCUS A Every good fairy tale. con- tains stock characters: hand- with a few additions. wick Davis (pictured) is Wil- low, a short-statured person who has been charged with protecting a small child from the evil intentions of dal”) are on hand to provide the non-dwarf teen romance that is obligatory in such films. e Billed as a “psychological thriller” concerning a troubled relationship between an apart- ment owner and the man who renovates her pad, “Through the Eyes of a Killer” (CBS, Dec. 15) sounds like an episode of “This Old House” gone terri- bly wrong. Richard Dean An- derson (“MacGyver”) plays the fixer-upper with murder in his eyes, and Marg Helgenberger is his client-lover. Tippi He- dren, one of Alfred Hitchcock’s favorite leading ladies, also stars as Anderson’s mother. e Rutger Hauer is a convict paroled for the murder of his pregnant wife, while Natasha Richardson plays his helpful social worker who becomes in- creasingly attracted to him, in “Past Midnight” (USA, Dec. 16). e Who needs a plot when the cast includes Glenn Close and the utterly beguiling Christo- pher Walken? Fortunately “Sarah, Plain and Tall” (CBS, Dec. 19) not only has great act- ing but also a charming story to back it up. Adapted from Patricia MacLachlan’s chil- dren’s book about a Kansas widower in 1910 who places an ad in the newspaper for a bride and gets Maine schoolteacher Close, this “Hallmark Hall of Fame” special was its most watched installment of the year when it first aired. e Anna Chlumsky and Ma- caulay Culkin star in “My Girl” (HBO, Dec. 19), the bit- tersweet comedy of love, death and bee stings. Dan Ayk- royd and Jamie Lee Curtis also star. On NBC’s “Mad About You,” Paul (Paul Reiser) recalls in flashbacks how he first met Jamie (Helen Hunt) two years ago. As it turns out, he first glimpsed her in some film footage he shot, then tracked her down to ask her on their first date - at her office Christmas par- ty. It airs Wednesday, Dec. 16. fe senSSSnsnSSSnENSSSEnanisnssunnneseeeeeeee ene On “Out All Night,” Vidal Martin, 1.) and Jeff Daorrh Che nut, r.), together with Angus, elect to assert their independence by spending Christmas away from their families.
