ROSSLAND EVENING RECORD, NOVEMBER 28," 1808. ARAK UNFRIED LOSES Best Wrestling Match Ever Seon in Rossland. MOTH HAD BEST OF IT FROM START Enthusiastic Audience Well Pleased With Result and the Fair Play. . Last night Frank Umfried and Char- lie Moth were the contestants in what ig acknowledged to have been the most scientific wrestling match ever seen in Rossland. The audience was one of the largest in the, history of the Interna- tional. Splendid order prevailed dur- Ld the evening, and the sathusiesc was ape all times attentive to es comfort of his patrons, and “hats off” was the ruling order all over the house. Max Karter was chosen referee, being acceptable to both contestants. ‘“Cool- gardie’? Smith was timekeeper. Professor Lewia was Moth’s second and Jazry Haley performed alike ser- vice for Umfried. The combatants eu- tered the ring, which wasin excellent condition, about 11:45 p.m. The ref- eree gave out that the contest would be best two in three, catch-as-catch-can holds, strangle hold barred. Umfried entered the ring first and was accorded awelcome reception, he being 2 local blacksmith, well and fayorably known by most of Roseland’s public. Moth is not @ stranger here either, and was well received upon his entrance. Both looked to be in the pink of con- dition, although Umfried was said to be soft in flesh and muscle from being out of training so long. No time was lost in preliminaries, Both men worked fore fall, and never overlooked a chance from the beginning. Every hold known to the ring, strangle extepted, was used at some time during the bout, The match was notably clear of fouls or flukes, and ded by all to READY FOR TE TURKEY —————— THE HISTORY OF THANKSGIVING The Roman Catholic Churches Will Observe ‘he Day. The Grst bout lasted 20 minutes and 5 seconds and was won by Moth in a com- bination of half Nelson and breech hold. Several times during this bout Umfried had Moth one point down, but each time Moth wonld break the hold and escape. The second bout was if anything hard- er fought than the previous one, clever work being done by both, but Moth eyentually got the beat of his opponent jnamix up where both went to the floor together, Moth recovering himeelf quickly, succeeded in securinga very firm hammerlock and a half Neleon, and slowly but surely forced Umfried to the canvas, winning the bout and con- test. Just before the wrestling bout a friendly four-round go with gloves, be- tween Jerry Haley and Fred Roas, took place. Haley was not in good condition, but put up, a lively defense notwith- standing. Ross was given the decision, being in the better condition, at the end of four rounds.
