MINE James Haughton Loses His Life By a Powder Explosion. HIS LIMBS TORN FROM THE BODY Victim Never Recovered—Death Al- most Instantaneous—Was Thawing Powder. One more name was.udded to the al- ready large list: of deatha: by powder explosion ‘yesterday _ evening — late when James Haughton, sometimes. cal- led “J. G. James,” met with a” horrible accident while thawing out some frozen giant powder at the Coxie Mine. Haughton lived half an hour,or more, but never gained consciousness, so that no explanation of the cause of the acci- dent could be given by him, and as he was alone the cause will alwaya remain a matter. of conjecture. Haughton, who had the work of put- ting in a 60 foct tunnel by contract working on‘the day ehift, and attended to the fireing of all blasts during the day.
