One look at his menu, where the most expensive item is $6.95, proves that this new Castlegar restaurant owner means business. Geoff Tellier and his wife Jeannie know about young families—after all they're currently raising two small children of their own. They understand what it’s like to arrive at | an ound < establishment, and feel are restless and fellow customers are ae eyebrows. So Geoff and Jeannie decided to do something about it. They opened the CastleRock Cafe, a pleas- ant little coffee shop and restaurant along Columbia Avenue, located in the Marlane Hotel. Their motto: ‘From family people for family people,’ is an reflection of Geoff and Jeannie’s val- ues and ideals—both in service and price, as well as in quality of food. Before opening CastleRock, the entrepreneurial couple made great strides in changing the entire atmosphere of the location, which once housed Jenny's Cafe. ‘The restaurant is refreshingly bright and open, with new cafe-style tables and chairs, as well as a coffee bar where regulars will gather for their moming jolt of java —usually by 6 am. Eventually, customers slight rant How did CastleRock get its name? A take-off from the HardRock Cafe perhaps? Or maybe its a hook into the sudden media-fascination with the pre- ing from Dinosaur to Fred and Wilma Flintstone are big at the box office and in the mainstream? Geoff shakes his head. No it’s nei- ther of these. In fact, the answer to this question is * much simpler and closer to home. “We just used the first syllable in Castlegar and added rock, because this area is sure packed with rugged beauty.” i on the and lunch menus are varied but straightforward, and Geoff is pleased to include a homemade menu just for kids, which of course includes space for budding young artists. ADVERTORIAL From family people for family people Castlegar’s CASTLEROCK CAFE caters to the family budget CastleRock cafe owner Geoff Tellier is also a cook at the restaurant. Both he and his wife are well adapted to working in a kitchen—a place where the two first met. Geoff hopes to have a catering business in full- swing by mid-November. It’s obvious that Geoff, dressed in a clean, white smock and traditional chef’s top-hat, is right at home in the kitchen. He’s a joume: cook, hav- ing received training at BCIT in Burnaby, the hern Alberta i of Te in Alberta, and also in Calgary, at The Old Scotch. Jeannie is a commercial baker by trade, and also trained at BCIT. In fact, it was at this school where the couple first met in 1979. Jeannie (Taranoff) is originally from this area, and when the two were married, they would holiday here annually.’ Their visits to Castlegar must have left a good impression, because it was here that they decided to raise their family and establish a busi- ness—in other words, establish some roots. “The cost of living is reasonable. The cost of buying a Speaking of homemade, it all is at the C: k home was And we feel it’s a great place Caler Krom refried beans (made. from scratch) to their: serumptious roasted chicken burger, Castle- Rock’s products and ingredients could have come right out of your mom's kitchen.
