While Wiltzen came to play, Thomson “I curled just “awful”,’ said Thomson, perhaps, playing his worst game of his career. “I was horrible. Last night (Saturday) was an absolute embarrassment.” Sunday was a different story. Despite falling behind 3-0 in the first end, Thomson kept the sparse home crowd believing as he ral- lied for two in the second before stealing a single in the third to even the game at 3-3. But it appeared the Thomson rink could not find the sharpness that was evident during the zone qualifier. “We weren’t as sharp as we curled in Kaslo,” second Jim Ross said after Sunday's game. “We had di reading the ice all weekend,” added Ross, who along with wife Judy and Bev Stevens makeup the balance of the Thomson foursome. Wiltzen did not have the same difficulty. Despite allowing Thomson to once again even the score in the fourth, the newcomer to the East took control in the sixth with a deuce, increas- ing his margin to three with a steal of one in the seventh. Thomson was able to cut the lead top 7-6 in the eighth. But with Wiltzen controlling the tempo with the » he never was able to regain the momentum. “That (second) particular game, my wife (and third, Jan) struggled a little bit and we were in trouble from time to time .. . that every once in a while,” said Wiltzen, who always came through with the big shot to pre- Serve the lead when it was needed. “She just wasn't throwing it clean today .. . . We lost,” added Thomson. Wiltzen now advances to rep- resent the Kootenay zone at the B.C. tournament in Abbotsford.
