Distingulshing themselves last weekend in Kimberloy were: Janet Foubis-* ter, placing first in the, pre- novice ladies’ event; Gwen Kruetzky—second in novice ladies’; Howard Stecle gaining first in the p ice mens’ In winning the above over- all awards in tholr divisions, each skater showed special skill in figure execution, Janet, Gwen and Wade cach captured firat place in this phase of the competitions while Howard earned a third. Also representing the Castlegar Club were Sarah event; closely pursued by Wade Robertson who won third in the same calegory, All four skaters are now eligible fdr the B.C. Sectional Championships which are to be held in New Westminster in mid-December. Lynda Johnst Patti Kubos and Charlotte Plelak, The cight skaters were ably coached by the Club pro- fessionals Christine McBeth and Deanna Pielak who will be accompanying the regional win- ners to the provincial cham- plonships next month. As of last weekend two rinks, Bradford and Ever- ard, share’ top honors with eight points.. Close on their heels are Dalziel, Lyons and Woytella, each with six points. Waterman is all alone with five while Mills, Murphy and LeRoy share the middle spot with four. Bringing up the proces- sion, but still rinks to be con- tended with are Wadey, Wil- son, Carkner, Verzuh and Young. This last is the rink skipped by our old friend Jack Young who stepped into the breech when Joe Cushner de- cided to take a break from skipping. Last weeks results were: Feeling listless? Hockey for Minors Dec. 27—Juveniles va. ‘The Castlegar Rebels had three games in four days, losing two and winning one, Last Wesnesday they travelled to Grand Forks and in tho firet and second periods Schisler and Olshi scored one each with Gord Pace picking up two, on assists by Dan Obedkoff, Wil- son, Yule, Olshi and Connatty. The third period the Rebels could not get through for any goals, ‘The Bruins were scoreless in the first period, but in the second, Popoff, G. Quiring and Nogreiff scored one each to make the score 4-3 for the Rebels. In the third, the Bruins scored two more to go ahead §4, The Rebels worked hard but went down for a loss by a 5-4 score. Penalties handed out were six for the Rebels and eight went to the Bruins, Net- minders saves were 83 by the Rebels goalie, Dyck and 31 by the Bruins goalie, Patterson. On Thursday of last week the Rebels hosted the Creston Clippers to get their win by a 92 score. In the first period Bozek opened up the scoring at the 15:37 mark on assists from Oishi and Wilson, The Rebels held Creston down till the end of the period when Barmann for the Clippers shot in the tying goal to end the period. Early in the second period the Clippers got a go-ahead goal but Wilson got a shot away from the blue line to tle it up, and with only 29 seconds left, Oishi scored to put the Rebels ahead 3.2, In the third period both teams played defensive hockey and no more scoring was al- lowed. Kevin Wilson played an outstanding game on defence keeping the Clippers away from the Rebels ond, Rick Hlookoff, in goal for the Rebels, made 37 saves while Creston netminder Schmalz made 36. The Rebels picked up 10 penalties while 11 went to the Clipper’. The Rossland Warriors visited the Rebels on Saturday and after going into overtime, defeated the Rebels 5-4. The Rebels went scoreless in the first period while Oliver and Murray Price, a Castlegar native, scored for the Warriors, Inthe second period the Rebels outplayed the Warriors scoring three goals while the Rossland squad was unable to get through for any. The third period saw the Rebels pop in one more goal early in the period to go ahead 4-2. The Warriors, the top team of the Weat Division, managed to get through the two goals to end the period with a tie. The Rebels goals came from Oishi, Ed Smith, Connatty and Bozek. Ed Smith picking up his first goal of the season. The Warrlors other goals came from Godfrey and Dan Walker, Walker being another Castle- gar boy. Both goaltenders, Dan McFarland of Rossland and Jerry Dyck of Castlegar, were outstanding, making 40 saves each. The winners took nine penalties, while seven went to the Rebels. The Rebels met the Ross- land Warriors Tuesday in Ross- land and will host Nelson to- night. On the weekend the Rebels travel to Cranbrook and Fernie.
