Fascimile transmission, fax for short, is available in
a vast array of sizes, shapes and with mind-boggling
options. But all operate on the same principle.

The machine optically scans a document and
converts what it sees into data representing the black
and white elements of the document. That information
is transmitted on a telephone line as high-pitched audio
pulses to a receiver which reconstructs the original market
document. Machines send and receive messages.

used for everything from sending student assignments
