WASHINGTON (AP) -- Judy Belushi, widow of
comedian John Belushi, sued reporter, Bob Woodward
and his publisher, Simon and Schuster Inc., on Friday
over a biography of her late husband due to be released
June 4.

Belushi said exclusive copyright photographs that
she lent Woodward, but did not authorize him to use, are
to be published in the book entitled, Wired ;- The Short

WASHINGTON (REUTER) — President Reagan

recent increase in the U.S, prime interest rate to 12.5 per
cent from 10 per cent was due to an unfounded fear of
returning inflation.

But he added in his weekly paid political radio
address that “we're determined that it doesn't (return).”

Reagan said the high interest rates and inflation of
the 1970s are gone and that “by virtually any yardstick,
our economy is coming back. America is coming back.
And for the first time in a long time, hope for the future is
coming back.”

RELATIONS POOR

MOSCOW (AP) — The Kremlin's chief spokesman
said Saturday that Soviet-American relations are at the

says the country has about-2,500 registered drug addicts,
the first time such a figure has ever been made public.

Eduard Babyan, Soviet representative on the United
Nations Narcotics Commission, wrote in the weekly
Novoye Vremya (New Times) that the low figure shows
the Soviet Union does not have a serious drug problem by
world standards.

He said there are no heroin, cocaine, LSD or amphe-
tamine addicts. He did not explain what kind of sub-
stances are used by those listed as dependent on drugs.

PHONEY MONEY SEIZED

NAPLES, ITALY (AP) — Police seized $260 million
in counterfeit U.S. currency during a raid on underworld
hideouts near this port city Saturday, the Italian news
agency ANSA reported.

It said the forged currency, all $100 bills, was dis-
covered in an apartment in Castellammare di Stabia, just
south of Naples.

Two men, presumed to be members of the Camorra
crime gang, were arrested and charged with counter-
feiting foreign currency, it said. ANSA identified them
as Francesco Cesarano, 62, and his 34-year-old son
Gaetano Cesarano.

CHINA'S CRIME DOWN

PEKING (AP) — China’s crime rate has dropped by
one-third this year because of a campaign against serious
offenders, the president of the Supreme People's Court
said Saturday.

Zheng Tianxiang told the National People’s Con-
gress, China's legislature, that crime was down 33.2 per
cent in the first quarter of this year compared with the
same period of 1983. He gave no pther figures. The gov-
ernment earlier reported a 42.5 per cent drop in crime in
the last three months of 1983.

China began a crackdown on serious crime last
August, and penalties were made more severe.

MOSCOW (REUTER) — Under a decree issued by the
Kremlin on Saturday, the head of the Soviet KGB
security police now can be awarded the title of “gener-
alissimo,” a rank previously held only by dictator Josef

after two days of rioting in the northern city of Gonaives

high school where a business computer lab was equipped
with 20 computers.

“We could easily use 30 machines here,” agreed Don
King, vice-prineipal of Stanley Humphries, and also a
member of the computer committee.

by the school board to make specific recommendations on
how the $40,000 should be spent, said Hall, although the

Apart from Hall, who's also the vice-president of a

trustees and schools. This includes a representative from the
learning assistance programs, which regularly use compu-
ters.

The Castlegar board decided May 14 to provide every
school except for primary schools with “at least one per-
manent computer on inventory.”

Hall said then that the committee recommended
“Apple” which cost between $900 and
$1,300.

According to Hall, computer education is moving so
quickly that school districts which postpone buying
computer equipment inevitably fall behind the times.

“How many kids have a slide-rule in their pockets . . . he
said. “Last week Underwood manufactured their last
manual typewriter. They ran it off the assembly line, and
broke the dies, so to speak.”

‘TREADING
CAREFULLY'

VANCOUVER (CP) — Illegality aside, union leaders in
the British Columbia pulp and construction industries,
spurred by what they consider anti-union {legislation and
stubborn employers, are advocating more work stoppages.

Both disputes are tied to controversial moves by the
Social Credit government, but Labor Minister Bob McClel-
land is, for the time being, treading carefully — a move that
has frustrated some industry officials.

Leaders of the province's two pulp and paper unions,~
representing 12,700 workers, will ask their members to
approve a three-day strike next month in an effort to
pressure their employers at the bargaining table.

The strike would be illegal under provincial legislation
passed early last month to re-open the 20 mills after a
nine-week lockout by the employers. The legislation also
removed the workers’ right to strike and provided for a new
contract to be imposed by the government, with the
approval of the legislature.

Pressed Friday for a reaction to the pulp unions’
announcement, McClelland offered only a “no comment,”
saying he was taking the day off.

Unionized construction unions, who shut down job sites
in the Greater Vancouver area Wednesday afternoon for a
“study session,” have promised more work disruptions
around the province as they expand their protest campaign
against recently-passed amendments to the B.C. Labor
Code.

One of the changes to the code would outlaw political
protest strikes, but the labor code amendment act, hurriedly
passed before the legislature adjourned two weeks ago, has
yet to be proclaimed by cabinet.

“I don't understand it,” said Chuck McVeigh, president
of the Construction Labor Relations Association. “They
were in such a hurry to get the thing passed and now they're
just letting it sit there.

“It’s evident that the building trades are using the
industry to get at the government over an issue that we
don't have any control over.”

Asked when the amendments, which also would curtail
secondary picketing and give cabinet the authority to
designate economie developmerit projects where unionized
construction workers would be required to work alongside
non-union tradesmen, McCelland said: “It will be proclaimed
when we proclaim it.”

Earlier, McClelland told reporters in Victoria that he
hoped disruptions by the construction unions would be kept
to a minirmum and that it would be up to the employers to go
before the Labor Relations Board to see if the study sessions
violate contractual agreements.
