tion of Selected Kootenay ,Al-
pine Lakes”, over a period of
two months during last July
and August, (Limnology is the
study of physical, chemical and
biological characteristics of
fresh water lakes.) :

local wildlife club personnel
supervised and helped with the
project. It was one of about a
dozen done by Selkirk students
as part of the youth employ-
ment program, a provincially-
funded attempt to create mean-
ingful summer jobs for stu-
dents,

The objectives of this
investigation were to gain an
information base which would
support further limnologic and
environmental impact studies,
to provide teaching material for
future studies by biology or

wildland atudents, to
encourage proper recreational
use of the areas and to add to
the knowledge of, local re-
sources,

Harvey Andrusak, region-
al director, fish and wildlife
branch, has praised the stu-
dents’ report asa job well done.
He will use the data as a basis
for consideration in the stock-
ing program this year.

Richards and Quaedvlieg
analysed eight small alpine
lakes located in the Castlegar-
Slocan Valley area, The report
describes the access to each
area by foot and vehicle and
analyses the characteristics of
éach lake such as stream
velocity and volume of flow;
water depth, clarity and tem-
perature in each lake; its
physical characteristics; chemi-
cal aspects of the water and
types of surrounding vegeta-
tion.

‘The students’ investigation
will serve as an important
starting point for future analy-

sis of the fresh water resources’

in the Kootenay area. A copy of
the report will be available in
the Selkirk College library in
Castlegar.

Dies at 48

Word has just been re-

ceived of the death of a former .

Castlegar.district resident Bob
Dally, .48, of Prince George.

During his years in the
area, Mr. Dally worked at the
pulp mill and was involved with
the then active Horsemen's
Club and very active with
Castlegar District Minor Hock-
ey Association.

He left the area approxi-
mately eight years ago.

Mr. Dally is survived by
his wife Elaine; two sons, Jack
and Jim and three daughters,
Marilyn, Janice and Colleen, All
make their home in’ Prince
George with the exceplion of
Colleen, who is attending Cari-
hoo College.

Details of the funeral ser-
vice were not available at the
time. this information was re-
ceived.

Nelson), gathering together the two sections of the
Castlegar News, bundling papers for carriers and
stores, by for mail
subscribers and sorting them into mail bags, and then
deiivering the newspapers to stores, Post office and
carrier drop polis.

Work every Wednesday night from 7 p.m. to about
1. a.m. (and, on occasion, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.) Must
also be available Tuesday evenings for abba inserting,
for which Is

Man and wife with two or three children (age 14 or
over) preferred.
