NEC TO PRESENT HISTORICAL TALK The West Kootenay National Exhibition Centre will present a talk entitled A History of Sternwheelers and ‘That talk is part of the ongoing program of British Columbia Provincial Museum presentations. Bob Turner will offer a talk on the era of sternwheelers in British Columbia, and Peter Corley-Smith will talk on the history of helicopter operations in the provinee. about the routes, vessels and equipment, and the impact of sternwheelers on the history of the Okanagan and the Kootenays. The illustrations used during his talk will cover scenes as early as the 1880s until the end of the age of steam vessels in the late 1950s. There will also be a short film on the last years of one of the CPR sternwheelers in the Kootenays. Born in Victoria, with degrees from UVic and UBC, Turner has been a curator in the Modern History Division Museum for the past 11 specializing in the history of transportation. In addition to numerous articles and reviews in he has published numerous books including Sternwheelers and Steam Tugs.
