Fiddlers’ party a success

The B.C. Oldtime Fiddlers
held its monthly meeting at
the Senior Citizens Hall Dee.
7 with 32 members and one
guest present.

The club held its Christmas
party Dec. 6 at the Castlegar
Legion Hall. It was well
attended and everyone
agreed the potluck supper
was superb.

The club musicians sup
plied the music for the dance
that followed and everyone
danced into the “wee” hours.

The Ways and Means Com
mittee has already booked
the hall for next year's
Christmas party to be held
Dee. 5.

Plans for the provincial
fiddle contest to be held this
year in Castlegar and hosted
by the local club are in full
swing. Chairman of the con-
test, Tony Smandych, ann.
ounced that the contest will
be held in the Community
Complex April 11.

Following the contest,
there will be a dance with

music supplied by the Fid.

The three judges for this
contest will be Bob Mont
gomery of Oyama, Slim Hau.
ser of Sardis and Elmer
Bolinger of Gleichen, Alta.

It was noted that Edith
and Armand Berg had been
holding music sessions in
their home. This is to help
up-and-coming fiddlers to im
prove their skills, and with
some help from the other
fiddlers it is proving suecess
ful.

They hope this get-togeth.
er will continue into the new
year and will help the club
gain some badly-needed new
fiddlers. Anyone in the dis
trict who plays oldtime fiddle
and is interested in joining
the club is welcome to come
out to the next meeting in the
Senior Citizens’ Hall in Cas
tlegar Jan. 4.

The group played for the
Castlegar Senior Citizens in
the Legion Hall Dec. 10 and
will play for the Koro Manor
Dee. 17
