Par an Victoria, V8V 1X4 Locked school upsets parents By SIMON BIRCH Staff Writer Castlegar Society for Quality Education held its inaugural meeting Tuesday during which many members directed their anger toward what they call a “locked door policy” at Castlegar primary school. Parents say students must wait to be let into the school for up to 50 minutes after arriving by bus at the school grounds. The parents expressed fears ranging from sick children being fgrced to stay out in inclement weather to the danger of cars entering and leaving the school’s driveway running over children and unsupervised children falling prey to child molesters. “I don't know what we have to do to get the school C Vol. 39, No. 75 board to listen to parents,” said Bill Hadikin of Ootischenia, who was elected president of the society. “They (the trustees) didn't ask parents what time they wanted their children to start school. Parents should be contacted and have their wishes made known.” The froblems at Castlegar primary mostly involve students from Ootischenia who are bused to the school now that Ootischenia elementary school is closed. Because of the bus schedule and the school’s starting time, some students are forced to wait outside for the school to open. While some parents at Tuesday's meeting acknow ledged the school was open during rainy weather Monday morning and a teacher now walks the grounds prior to school opening, they said it is not enough and agreed to put the astlegar CASTLEGAR, BRITISH COLUMBIA, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17. 1966 60 Cents situation at the school among the society's priorities. “It's going to be a little too damn late (for the board to committee that will present Siitiet to the provincial govern- ment on the éffects of restraint on jon in the Casth district “We certainly can't serve as a watchdog over local school board policies when we're part and parcel of what they're doing.” Hadikin said in speaking against the request.
