He is survived by his wite Margaret G and other relatives in Germany Brisco accepts decision By CasNews Staff Kootenay West MP Bob Brisco said this week that while he is disappointed about the closure of the Canada Customs office in Nelson, he reluctantly ac- cepts the reasoning behind the decision. Brisco met with the minis- ter of National Revenue who is responsible for customs and excise, and said that he has been assured that the closure will not result in any reduction in service to Nel- son or the surrounding com- munities. “The fact is the Nelson customs office is no longer given enough work to justify keeping two papa on and ” Brisco said The following are the Lotto West numbers drawn Wed- nesday night. More than 90 per cent of the capacity at the Nelson office is no longer being used. It will be closed in the spring of 1987 along with 29 other offices across the country. “I'm not happy to see this service go,” said Brisco. “But at the same time, I cannot support its continued exis tence if it means wasting taxpayers’ money.” Brisco also said that he will be asking some of the local businesses which presently use the Nelson office to mon itor the level of customs ser- vice both before and after the closure. “If it can be demonstrated that the community is being underserved, I will insist that the office be re-opened,” said Brisco.
