It ia not at all unlikely that Rossland may contest with Spokane the right’ to be the mining center of the Pacfic northwest. We have the mines, Spo- kane has not. We are much nearer the Slocan, and the Boundary country on this ide of the line, while the reserva- tion properties on the American side are are not half the distance from Rossland that they are from Spokane, ‘The recent selfish, unfair conduct of the Spokane brokers, has given the Ross lsnd brokers an opportunity to make a strong point with dealers in mining stocks all over the country, not except- ing Spokane. There iano reason why our brokers might not sell Republic srocks in Spokane and make money, if they will be isfied with | WEAK: AND WEARV WOMEN FIND AREAL FRIQND IN SOUTH AMERICAN NERVINE, [APS he eas and Robie phystediiy, as D tad’ moraliys out fe is true nevertheless, when her “health of earliest years, and atter. “alas jotties she wes. completely cui fo wonder she is x ng in her conviction chet at there ls is to pgemedy Nke South Ameri- Sold by Goodeve Bros. A quarter orhalfa cent be- low the quoted ‘price of the standard stocks of Rossland will secure ready sales, and our brokera are conducting themselves accordingly. A lot of Rossland money has gone in- ! to Republic, and Rossland men, and money made in Rossland has been the principal factor in bringing reservation properties to the front. Spokane owes Rossland much fer its prezent prosper- ity, and it isin very bad taste for such menas De Lashmutt toslap the Ross- land brokers over Thé Rzcorp’s shoul- der, and cast unfavorable reflections up- on Rossland mines, abusing and lying about, and showing his ‘‘contempt” for The Recorp, a Rossland newspaper that has always shown the greatest enn- for Bp and generally. That'is not the way to build up a great mining centre, and if Spo- | & kane endorses such a thing, Rossland will have but little difficulty in out- atripping her sister city to the south. R. Reid, of Rossland, who is mining in the Chiistina Inke region, gave the followiag to the Bossburg Juurnal re- girding that section: Although mining around Christina ie yet inits embryo stage, the outlook is very encouraging: It iea large distiict, and. passing through over the stage line via Caecade City and Boesburg the travel- er can obtain’ but a very poor idea of its extent. ,‘The lake iteelf is nut visible to the travéler on this route, and really one has to ‘dee this beautiful 18 mile eheet of water with its surrounding monntains and tributary streams in order to real- ise what a great stretch of mineral country there 1s subordinate to Cascade City. “It is two miles from the foot of the lake to the city. As will be seen by the map the lake Jies almost due north and south. Five miles up the lake on the right hand wide the waters of Baker creek are received. From the mouth of this creek back a distance of four miles and for about three miles in width, the ground is all staked. The forma ion in this belt.ig nearly, identical with the Rossland formation and immense de- posite of low grade gold-copper ore have been uncovered.’ The Elmore, Beach, Shamroek, Thistle, Alphonse, Iron Mountain, Cracker Jack, Yellowstone and Exceleoir are. only a few of tite promising «laima on Baker creek. Be- tween Baker creek and the south end of the lake Sutherland creek empties its waters. On this creek James Kelly was the pioneer prospector and owns & group of claims that have good showings and a considerable amount of work done. It is the valley of McCrea creek that the railwoy follows down the Arrow dakes divide. -The country along the McCrea has been pretty fairly prospec. ted aud numerous locations made. Ona pliteau ubove Gladstone, and some ten m'les from the lake, ia ‘a piece of ‘coun- ‘t y known os the Burnt Basin. Up here the aseays taken from surface ciop- Pinze are quite phenominal, the free aiilling quartz running up into the thou- sandgsand showing free gold in quanti- tities. In the Burnt Basin there_are two paraHel belts, one showing copper and gulena bodies and the other genu- ne free milling in a granite and porph- yry fermation. - The Mother ‘Lode. and Tammany groups are as yet the moat notable free milling properties, but the Mecklenary and. uthera are being con- tiderably talked of. The Solid Gold, Mystery, Lawless, Edicon, Bryan, enter= rational and other groups bave been giving good agsaye gold, silver, and cop- per. The Jobn Bull, cluse to Gladstone, lias been bonded fur # good sum and is now being developed. On the west side of the lake a few good claims have been located, and there isa big field for the prospector, Now that the railway is assured, the Christine lake claim holders are picking up courage, feeling, as they do, that with plenty of ore that will aseay on the surface and with direct transportation to a smelter that inyestors will not over- " look the district in the future. ‘There are several townsites located in the district now, the chief of which is Cascade City. This new town has @ dozen hotels and some large mercantile houees, It promoters think that even When railway construction is completed that the town will have support enough ina mining way to keep things hum- ning. ‘ERODE TANG The Ryexing Record’s Popularity Fast Returning, The Butte Dining rooms.
