Chamber promotes Backup of grain could be serious VANCOUVER (CP) — Grain elevators here are plugged with wheat deatined for China because there is a shortage of Chinese ships‘ available to carry it away. The result is a backup of rail cars, frustrated terminal operators and the possibility of delay to the other port customera who cannot get their vessels under grain spouts, The problem is an unusual one for Vancouver. Usually the problem is that grain ships have to anchor offshore awaiting arrival of cargo de- layed through avalanches, work disruptions and short- energy conservation. The British Columbia Chamber's Energy Commit- tee offers the following sug- gestions to conserve valuable energy resources in every community of the province. 1. Each household can con- serve energy by using wea- therstrip on doors, double- glazed windows, increasing the level of insulation in walls - and cellings of houses and re- ducing the use of a scarce resource by conversions from oit to gas heating. 2, Each automobile owner can conserve gasoline by us- ing park and ride facilities for’ 6) larger cars or switching to smaller vehicles, while own- ers of commercial vehicles may be able to convert to natural gas instead of gas- oline fuel. 8. Industrial firms should be urged to use their own waste products to produce energy for internal use. More recent studies say this may not be the case, Carpenter told the 2ist an- nual Dental Reviews Pro- gram, which is sponsored by the clinic. Carpenter said the earlier studies were done on ‘pa- tients at such places at the Mayo Clinic and large, uni- versity medical centres. It is possible, he said, the ‘men studied may not have been in the best health to begin with. More recent investigations were done on the general population and presumably ~ included healthier men, Car- penter said, and the findings conflict with those of the 1950s.
