For Nielsen used to work at Mobil and left on rather
unpleasant terms to join Superior in January 1978.

As a result, Mobil launched a lawsuit against Nielsen
to prevent him from becoming president of Canadian
Superior, but lost the case,

Now, Nielsen is about to‘be reunited with his former
employer, and many industry observers are already
wondering whether he will remain in his present job for
long.

S simply never anticipated that this would happen,”
Nielsen said in an interview, adding that he is unclear
about his future.

“A lot depends upon what the final structure of the
company will be. If Mobil gains control, it can do
whatever it wants with Canadian Superior. It might
decide to keep us, or it could sell us off to another
company.”

He said his first loyalty is to his company.

“As far as I'm concerned, I'm still working for
Canadian Superior. And if there are going to be changes
in the structure of the company, I would like to be in on
the decision-making process. Yet I can't say what I will be
doing in the long run.”

president of the company’s then Calgary-based| subsidi
ary, Mobil Oil Canada Ltd., and Mobil rected angrily

Company officials immediately accused Canadian
Superior of hiring Nielsen to obtain its trade secrets. To
back up their charge, they noted he would be receiving a
basic annual salary of $225,000 plus benefits, making him
one of the highest-paid executives in the Canadian oil
patch.

Mobil sought a court order to bar Nielsen from com-
municating with comes Superior for a year and to get
other uns} ied damages.

However, an Alberta court exonerated Canadian
Superior and Nielsen, saying there was no evidence he
had divulged confidential Mobil secrets.

During the case, Nielsen's business associates testi
fied that he was highly ethical and could carry out his new
duties without compromising Mobil’s interests.

SFQRONTO (CP) — Peter Gordon goes to Ottawa next
month to-pick up his Order of Canada.

He is, friends say, properly proud of the honor and
recognition the award carries, though he passes it off with a
self-deprecating quip:

“I keep saying that the government still continues to
make mistakes.”

Gordon is chairman and chief executive officer of Stelco

Inc., Canada's biggest steelmaker, which makes him one of

the country’s preimer industrialists.

There's more involved, howeyer, in being awarded the
Order than being a big wheel in business and boardrooms.

It is given to honor Canadians for outstanding
achievement and service to the country or to humanity at
large, and also for distinguished service in specific localities
and fields of activity.

Despite his disclaimer about the government goofing,
Gordon's qualifications are solid.

In addition to his corporate achievements and
community works, however, Gordon has earned at least a

The last rear-wheel-drive
Oldsmobile 98 rolled off the
assembly line Friday — 36
years after the introduction
of the big sedan that became
the flagship of the General
Motors Corp. division.

The last car — a metallic
blue, four-door model — was
the 2,297,601st Olds 98 built
at Lansing’s Oldsmobile
plant. It will be kept by the
GM division for historical
purposes, such as parades
and auto shows, a company
spokesman said.

The model will not remain,
but the name will, the
spokesman said. The new
Olds 98 will be a smaller,
more fuel-efficient front-
wheel-drive car, but it will
not be made in Lansing — an
Oldsmobile town for decades.

The new model, due to go
sale April 5, already is under
production at GM facilities in
Orion Township north of
Detroit and Wentzville.

About 2,500 workers will
be temporarily laid off during
the model changeover. An
additional 2,300 workers also
will be laid off, but will be
called back depending on
sales of the GM-20.
