There is, he said, increasing interest in the use of exercise as a “major rehabilitation component” for middle-aged heart attack individuals. Dr. Kavanagh explained that the Toronto Rehabilita- tion Centre had developed post-coronary exercise pro- grammes which underline the need for, and the value of walking and jogging. These. are two ideal activities for community programmes be- cause they are easy to carry out, are inexpensive, and can be continued after the patient leayes the Centre. Kavanagh commented that some, 2,500 patients had exercised often at vigorous levels since the programme was introduced twleve years ago.
