While with the Buddy Rich Band, Harris performed with Dizzy Gillespie, Milt Jackson, Joe Williams, Jon Hendricks and Sammy Davis Jr. Originally from Cincinnati, Harris moved to Los Angels in the mid-80s and began playing in California clubs with his own group. He has al- so been called to work with Doc Severinsen, Marvin Hamlisch, Andy Williams, Ann Jillian, Leslie Uggams, Gloria Loring, Englebert Humperdink and Ben Vereen. Harris’ music has been performed and recorded by college and professional bands throughout the world. Harris will spend a day with students at Selkirk College’s Professional Music Program before playing in concert for a Nelson audience. Funeral service began at the Castlegar Funeral Chapel on Friday, Nov. 13, 1992 at 7 p.m. and con- tinued Saturday, Nov. 14, 1992 at 10 a.m. with burial at Park Memorial Cemetery at noon. Mrs. Makaroff was born Sept. 1, 1904 at Langham Sask. She grew up there and married William F. Makaroff at Langham in December of 1921. After their marriage they moved to Blaine Lake where they farmed.In 1930s they moved to Alberta and in 1945 to Shoreacres. In 1962 they moved to Castlegar where they lived until moving to Mrs. Makaroff enjoyed both vegetable and flower gar- dening. She was also active in the ladies cooking groups when she was able.She is survived by one daughter and son in law, Emma and George Moojelsky of Ft. St. John, daughter in law, Vera Makaroff, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, four sisters and 1 brother.She was predeceased by her husband in 1989 and one son in 1991.
