Ron Negreiff of Shoreacres assumed the role of marketing and human resour- ces manager, while Chris Seggewiss of Nelson acted as chief executive of- ficer of the fictitious company. That way others couldn’t divide and conquer,"’ she said, For her performance, Nims was judged the best overall competitor in the games and was awarded a com- puter. The GPT features full IFR instrumentation and controls for two pilots and is equipped with a flight. director. The flight deck of the 242T is representative of an actual aircraft. All equip- ment, instruments, — circuit breakers, switches and controls of training value are an instructor, working from the free-standing operator station connected to the simulator, may implement or alter various air- craft component or system failures, environmental con- ditions and the navigation data base. Students’ reactions to these The delivery of the 242T adds a fourth GPT to the program's inventory of training aids. Another unit, the FRASCA 142, simulates the operation of a multi-engine, piston-driven air- craft. Two others, FRASCA 141s simulate the operations of single- engine aircraft. “Our students spend a lot of time in the GPTs honing their skills in everything from Ministry of Ad Job Training and Technology. The 242T is representative of a turboprop aircraft in the 5,500 kilogram takeoff weight class and igi to crew to procedural and decision- making skills,’’ Evans said. Each of the GPTs at Selkirk College is fully computerized ‘so is on a plotter as is the simulated flight path of the aircraft. This way, the instructor can easily monitor how well students react to operational ‘difficulties and navigational challenges. Adding a fourth GPT will allow students to make more Productive use of periods of in- clement weather, when college aircraft are grounded. These GPTs;together with the college's five Cessna 172s and two Beech- craft Travel Airs, make Selkirk College a leader in B.C. for commercial aviation training, the college says. Pacific party hits the road PENTICTON — British Columbia’s newest political party began actively looking for members in a provincewide tour that began Thursday in the Okanagan Valley. ““We’re here.to meet with some people who are interested in learning a little bit more about the party,”” said Donna Telep, founding director and interim vice-president of the B. The party’s founding convention will be held April 6 with discussions concerning who will lead the party and the date for a now i set for June. “If the (provincial election) writ is dropped those plans will have to be changed,’’ said Telep, who quit March 6 as president of the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows Social Credit constituency association. Law to protect heritage Victoria — Municipal Affairs Minister Lyall Hanson has introduced a white paper that will form the basis for a new Heritage Conservation Act and allow for major changes to the Municipal Act. The proposed legislation allows local government to manage and conserve heritage resources; increase protection for heritage sites important to native people and provide a closer working relationship between the province and native community. The planned law will also contain provisions to address the rights of owners of heritage property. : Hanson said.the legislation will protect and preserve heritage resources in es of change and development as well as guard and develop the province's historical legacy into the next century. C. Pacific party. Liberals lagging in B.C. VANCOUVER (CP) — A provin- cial election call could be just a few weeks away and the governing Social Credit party is in turmoil, but B.C. Liberals are about as visible as wallflowers at a high-school sock hop. The party began its annual con- vention here Friday with no seats in the legislature, a provincial leader under fire and a proposal to separate into independent federal and provin- cial wings. Up to 250 delegates have gathered for the three-day meeting and even. the party’s news release promises “‘high drama and action.”’ Provincial leader Gordon’ Wilson has been battling accusations he ran up more than $250,000 in party debts by approving exenditures outside his authority. He has denied the claims, drawn from leaked party documents, and promises a full explanation at the convention, Wilson, a college instructor and former pig farmer who's been leader since 1987, thinks the Liberals could win six seats or more in the next elec- tion, which the government must call by this fall. The Liberals have been trying to convince voters they are a moderate alternative to the Socreds and favored New Democrats. But when a new party was laun- ched last week by Socreds unhappy with Premier Bill Vander Zalm, Wil- ly issued -a news release people the province already had a third party — his Dissident Liberal Hans Krause, president of the West Vancouver- Howe Sound riding association, prefers no leader at all going into the election, saying Wilson could be a long-term liability.
