It is this purity and crystal clearness which allows for a diamond to blaze with prismatic reflections. : Clarity: Foreign deposits, bubbles, cracks, and such inclusions limit the amount of diamonds suitable for jewellery. In fact, about 80% of diamonds are not suitable for jewellery. In most cases these flaws can only be identified by a jeweller. Cut: A diamond must be cut and polished to exact specifications in order to reflect light properly. Each diamond must be cut with 58 facets, otherwise light escapes through the pavillion facets and the stone loses its brilliance. Carat: The least important of the four diamond characteristics. The carat is the diamonds weight. There are 141 3/4 carats per ounce, a carat subdivided into 100 points. Therefore, a ten point stone is one that weighs one tenth of a carat. Most center stones are about one-half of a carat, or 50 points. For the second year in row, the Castlegar native has been caught in the numbers game in Junior A hockey. : What that means for the 19- year-old former Castlegar Rebel is a seat on the outside looking in as the Vernon Lakers steam ahead in their defense of the Centennial Cup. And it’s a situation that might become painfully obvious to his family and friends if the Lakers meet the Trail Smoke Eaters to decide B.C.’s Tier 2 Junior A hockey champion. ‘By that time (the trading deadline), it was just too late to ask for a trade or anything.’ -Kevan Rilcof (The Smoke Eaters lead Prince George 2-0 in the best of three series to decide who will face Vernon in the Mowat Cup. That ists in 53 g playing a regular shift on defence during the regular season. Right after the deadline trade he was installed as a fourth line right winger and saw his ice time diminish accordingly. To date in the playoffs he has a goal and one assist and has played only eight of the team’s 16 games. Though Rilcof says he’s trying to keep a positive attitude, his words are edged in the dissatisfaction he’s feeling with hockey right now. e “Well, I don’t know, I'd just lik: to have a chance to play,” said Rilcof Wednesday from Vernon. Quitting was an option he contemplated. “Yeah well, thoughts like that go through my mind, but I don’t know, I try to do other things to stay positive, keep busy.” Beyond quitting, Rilcof soon realized his options were limited. “By that time (the trading deadline) it was just too late to ask for a trade or anything, you know, it was right at the deadline.” Almost worse than the feeling of being an outsider in the Lakers success is what management’s deadlige decision could do to Rilcof’s hopes for. a hockey scholarship. “No it doesn’t help at all. Ihave two more years of junior left, I'l play one of them and if things don’t work out next year with the scholarship, then I'll just go to school,” Rilcof said. Rilcof halfheartedly says his teammates and coaches are trying to keep him a part of it, but he series will be decided this weekend in Prince George.) The whole thing is a bit like deja vu for Rilcof. Like last year, Rilcof was was rowing merrily along, gaining confidence and playing better hockey, then boom! January 10, the trading deadline. On the last day of the B.C. Junior Hockey League deadline the Lakers acquired a pair of standout defenceman and Rilcof all of a sudden became the odd man out on the bench. His statistics tell the story. He had nine goals and 10 admits he’s drained emotionally. “No, I’m not (enthusiastic) and haven't been for while.” Lakers general-manager Mel Lis, who engineered the deals in both years, said the numbers game is just part of hockey. *That’s the way it goes, we’re carrying 22 guys and two guys have to sit. That’s hockey.” Regardless,of the numbers, Lis said Rilcof should be happy about his lot with the Lakers. “I know a lot of guys right now who are out of a hockey job who would love to play eight of 16 games to be on a winner. “You don’t ever want to be selfish. My philosophy is, you know, tie shoelaces to be on a winner instead of being a first liner on a loser. You know, think about it,” Lis said. As for the damage to Rilcof’s scholarship prospects, Lis said Rilcof’s got lots of time left. attended to and entered into our registry.
