To Entertain Students

Director John Heath is
busy rehearsing these days
with a most unusual cast—
goblins, trolls, dwarfs, a wizard
and even a dragon.

It's Bastion’s 16th season
of school touring, and the show
—a Tolkien tale, “There and
Back Again” will go out to the
elementary schools of the pro-
vince and back again, beginning
Oct. 2.

Past tours have brought a
variety of plays to young audi-
ences, but never before such a
fascinating assortment of char-
acters in such a wondrous ad-
venture, in which a peace-
loving Hobbit is pressed into
service to recapture a stolen
crown with a blazing jewel.

Four talented young per-
formers—Susan Gillatt, Graeme
McKenna, Louis Nueman and
Paula Reck, play all the char.
acters, with many quick
changes in and out of the fairy-

tale costumes and masks, cre-
ated by a gifted team—designer
Tom Taggart, properties mis-
tress Shelly Schwieder and
seamstress Gloria Gray.

. Four talented young per-
formers, with Bastion Youth
Touring Company manager
Peter McGuire in charge, will
also be playing in B.C. second-
ary schools. The second show
now in rehearsal is another of
John Heath's original scripts,
“She Loves Me: He Loves Me
Not,” a shrewd and entertain-
ing look at youthful romance of
the past and present, as classic
lovers from history and litera-
ture and their contemporary
counterparts find their be-
dazzled way along the prover-
bial rocky road of true love.

In the fall the company
plays in the Greater Victoria
area, .throughout | Vancouver,
Island and.on the Gulf Islands.
In the spring, the company
performs in the B.C, Interior.

ers," a theatre show for chil-
dren, will be coming to the
National Exhibition centre this
Sunday afternoon.

Valley Group, the show is for
children and for the young-at-
heart, including scenes from

ing, jokes and games,

The show lasts about one
hour and 15 minutes and
promises to be an exciting

Little-Publicized Hazard

Entitled “I Wasn't Scared,”
this 21-minute color film drama
shows how to react to the
dangers of explosive devices.

In it two, children, Todd
and Debbie, aged nine and 13,
set out for a day of fishing.
Instead of fish they find a
bomb.

What happens and how
tragedy is averted is what
makes this film worth seeing,

It's not your run-of-the-

mill, tedious training film, but a
taut, well-acted, believable mo-
vie showing the hazards facing
youth when they inadvertently
find an explosive device.
While a little-publicized
hazard, it's nevertheless a
growing one facing young ad-
venturous people today.
