Ken Cormler — Craig Webber — Jude Hunter — Katherine Barbin Local musicians take awards Four young Castlegar musicians received cham- pionship awards this past - week at the Kootenay Festi- val of the Arts held in Nelson, Craig Webber, student of Helen Dahlstrom of Ross- land, topped the senior Bach and Canadian piano classes (playing “Toccata in E Minor by Bach, and Etude de Son- orite by F. Morel). Adju- dicator Mary Ticknor lauded him for his “keen listening and good grasp of style...a very musical player” whom she encouraged to “pursue music as a career.” Webber also placed first int he senior Impressionistic, Chopin and Concerto classes, He has received tho Helen Dahlstrom Award — for a Canadian composition, the Registered Music Teachers of Rossland-Trail scholarship and the Nelson Kinette Ciub award for achieving the highest piano mark in the festival: (Three performers tied with the mark of 90.) Ken Cormier, student of Rene Brown of Castlegar, earned a championship med- allion in the piano sight playing finals.
