Blister Rust Cure

Celgar has recently received
samples~ of "Acti-dione ‘BR",
which js an antibiotic believed
to be a posible cure for blister
rust,

Blister rust is a tree disease
which has a life cycle requiring
pine trees and “ribes” bushes,
such as currant and gooseberry
bushes, to complete the life cycle
of the disease,

Most previous attempts to
stop the devastating attacks of

blister rust, which have almost

wiped out pine tree growth -in
many areas in the U.S.A;, have
been based on eradicating or pul-
ling out all “ribes” plants so that
the life cycle of the disease is
interrupted.

Other work has been done in
an attempt to breed pine tree var-
jeties resistant to the disease so
that new forests can be planted
using this type of stock. .
Acti-dione BR is mixed with
fuel oil and sprayed on the trunk
and lower limbs of trees, There
are already some indications that
blister rust infection can he halt-
