Community crafts open for bidding at annual Tree Festival @ Second annual event rasies funds for scholarships and bursuries while providing entertaining night out Preparations are well un- derway for the Selkirk College Foundation’s second annual Festival of Trees. As a prelude to the Christ- mas season, the festival pro- vides an opportunity to com: bine a gourmet meal with the excitement and suspense of a live auction, a news release says. “Of course the highlight of the evening is the auctioning of 18 beautifully decorated, high quality artificial Christ- mas trees,” the release said. Many organizations are do- nating their creative talents to design handcrafted decora- tions and decorate trees for the auction. New this year in the jon are a ber of Trail Mayor Sandy Santori will wield the gavel as the auc- tioneer for the evening. He has issued a challenge to city coun- cil members of Grand Forks, Castlegar and Nelson to par- ticipate in this gala event, the release said. For the “shy” bidder, there will be many gift items avail- able through a silent auction which was a popular feature of last year’s festival. Silent auc- tion items range from opulent- ly decorated gingerbread houses, Christmas wreaths and handicrafts, to bottles of Selkirk College Vintners’ own vintage wine. “The festival presents an opportunity for the public to experience fine dining, gra- cious hospitality and a musi- cal interlude which showcases the skills acquired by Selkirk College students in the Cook- ing, Tourism and Professional Music programs,” the release said. All monies raised through services and gift items includ- ing a season’s pass to Mountain and a Les Weisbrich limited edition print.
